How it works

Three steps, read by a person

  1. 1

    Send the chassis number

Older cars have a shorter chassis number, sometimes with letters. Newer ones have a 17-character VIN. Your email tells the team where the result goes.

  2. 2

    A Ferrarista reads the records

By hand, against the archive and its partners. Every fact keeps its source, and the years with nothing on file are named.

  3. 3

    The result arrives by email

Usually within a week, and free. If there is more to find, you can decide on a Chassis File afterwards. Nothing is charged online.

Questions about the check

Where is the chassis number?

It’s stamped on the frame and printed on the registration papers. Many cars also carry it on a plate in the engine bay or door jamb.

My car was built before 1981. Does it have a VIN?

No. Cars from before 1981 carry a shorter chassis number. Enter it as it’s stamped, with any letters.

What does it cost, and how long does it take?

Nothing. The records for your car are read by hand, and within about a week you get an email with what’s known and which years are missing. If you want the whole story, you can open a Chassis File from there.

What if little is known about my car?

Then the check says so plainly, and that’s often where it gets interesting. A Chassis File includes 12 months of checks and alerts: the archive grows every day, and when something new turns up about your car, you hear it first. A missing year means nothing has been found yet, not that nothing happened.

Can I check a car I don’t own?

Yes, if you’re buying it or looking after it. The check tells you what’s on record. A Chassis File itself is opened by the car’s owner.
