From a shoebox to a reward
-
Their car can’t account for 1983, its first year. €200 is there for whoever can show where it was.
-
The selling dealer’s invoice, in an old file. Tell the team what it is. A photo or a scan is enough to start.
-
Is it real, dated and for this car? The owner pays only if it’s accepted.
-
75% of the reward is yours. The year goes on record, with your name or without it.
The invoice is real: Garage Francorchamps, Brussels, 27 April 1983, with the buyer and the chassis blacked out. The record around it is an example. Rewards start at €50.

Each mark is one record. The shaded years have none. Every car in the Register
The paper is usually still out there
It sits where nobody thinks to look. To whoever holds it, it’s clutter. Each piece is a year somebody is trying to find.
-
The retired mechanic
Receipts and job cards from the garage, filled in by hand. Their handwriting on every one.
-
The former owner
A folder of papers from the years the car was theirs, like this registration book of S/N 19169. Kept, never opened.
-
The dealer’s back office
Factory invoices and sale contracts from before the euro, in a cabinet nobody opens.
-

The family clearing a house
A shoebox of photographs. A Ferrari in the background, the plate still readable, like this one of S/N 53319.
All four are real: a handwritten Shell service receipt from 1980, the Italian registration book of S/N 19169, Ferrari’s 1958 pro-forma invoice to Garage Francorchamps for a 250 GT and a photograph from the published story of S/N 53319.
A card index gave chassis 13462 its early years back
The owner of a 1977 308 GT4 made several enquiries. None led anywhere. Then a search of Kroymans’ surviving card index found the car’s record, and the former mechanic recognised his own handwriting.
- 24 May 2023The card index produces the car’s record
- September 2023The second keeper brings period photographs
This was the owner’s own research, and no reward was involved. The paper had been there all along.

Before you send anything
Do I have to give up my originals?
No. A copy is enough to start. If an original needs to be seen, that’s agreed with you first.
What if I don’t know the chassis number?
Describe the car. A registration, a colour or a place and year can be enough to identify it.
Does it cost me anything?
No. Telling the team what you have is free.
Will my name be published?
Only if you want it to be. You choose public credit or privacy before anything is used.
Who pays the reward?
The car’s owner. Maranello Data checks the document and handles the payment. It doesn’t fund rewards itself.
How do I send something today?
By email for now. Describe what you have and the team replies. Online uploads are being built.
